OUR NEW WORKSHOP
After a slow start to the year, we finally have our workshop site set up and have had a couple of workshops so far. The last workshop saw us forging with seven members doing a variety of things in the process of learning the craft. We hope to have 4 forges set up with four anvils and a couple of post vices. As well, we have a spring power hammer that needs a spring replaced or made. We will be putting security mesh around the area and then the spring hammer can be set up out side.
The country forges have been down on man power since the years beginning. Moonta and Angaston are being operated frequently but Burra, Riverton, Tailem bend and Mannum have missed out. We need more members to volunteer to work these areas. Unfortunately, high fuel prices and the distances involved make it difficult to have all forges working every weekend.
Coke has turned out to be a problem for us of late. Onesteel's quality is down at the moment and this is preventing us from getting good supplies. It is hoped that things can only improve from this point on. We need to think about getting a couple of gas forges built to provide an alternative heating source.
